Congratulations to Carl and Marietta Soukup, honored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals as South Dakota’s Outstanding Philanthropists of 2024!
Carl and Marietta made one of the very first gifts to LifeScape’s Journey of Hope, to build a new children’s services facility. This is just one of countless gifts they’ve made in the Sioux Falls community and beyond over many years. The Soukups say their inspiration for giving is because they have been richly blessed in their lives and believe they should help the community.
At the awards event, Carl shared a story of serving in the Korean War and seeing ten people fight over an empty soda can. People fighting over his trash had an impact on him that he still carries today, and he has passed it on to his kids and grandkids. “We have so much here, we need to share it because we’ve been blessed.”
We are so happy to see such an amazing family—who live their values across multiple generations—recognized for their work helping our community.
