Community Partner: The Wellmark Foundation

Providing better mental health outcomes for children

With a $250,000 gift to the LifeScape Journey of Hope campaign for the new Children’s Services facility, the Wellmark Foundation is beginning an exciting new partnership with LifeScape.

The Wellmark Foundation gift will provide a dedicated testing and assessment room for conducting functional behavioral assessments (FBAs) and functional analyses (FAs). The testing and analysis are used to identify the causes and underlying factors of challenging behaviors.  The program will benefit youth with autism spectrum disorders, mental health diagnoses, and other behavioral needs. It will serve youth in all areas of LifeScape, from outpatient and outreach services to school settings and residential care.

“The Wellmark Foundation strategically deploys resources to support initiatives that meaningfully and measurably improve the health of all South Dakotans,” says Laura Jackson, executive vice president for Wellmark and chair of The Wellmark Foundation Board. “We were inspired to support LifeScape as they align with our holistic approach to improve youth health outcomes, recognizing that early intervention and comprehensive care can prevent more serious conditions and higher health care costs later.”

This high-value support provides peace of mind for families of children with complex medical conditions and ultimately keeps working parents engaged in the workforce.

The Wellmark Foundation believes that healthy people and healthy economies are inextricably linked. We are excited for their collaboration in improving care and outcomes for the children of South Dakota and beyond.
