In 2020, LifeScape launched a “five new houses in five years” plan to upgrade housing for the adults we support. The fifth house in that project, Washington Home, opened in April 2025, with eight adults relocating to a brand-new, beautiful home in northeast Sioux Falls. This project has been possible through a funding partnership with the South Dakota Housing Development Authority.
With the help of the SDHDA, we can extend the project and add two more new adult homes, but we need help to make it happen. Because of increased construction costs and the customization needed for our residents, we are left with over $400,000 in owner equity costs.
To make it work, the LifeScape Foundation is seeking tax-deductible gifts of land to help meet the financial criteria of the grant formula. The lot would need to be within the Sioux Falls city limits and at least 15,000 square feet to accommodate the duplex design, created by Koch Hazard Architects.
LifeScape has 322 adults living in 39 residential locations in the Sioux Falls area. The residents moving into the new, one-floor accessible homes have previously been supported in other LifeScape housing, mostly rentals. Owning the houses allows us to maintain and manage them more efficiently.
If you are interested in this unique opportunity, we could turn your $80,000 investment of land into a $1.7 million home for eight individuals! For details, contact LifeScape Foundation President Jessica Wells at 605-444-9800 or giving@LifeScapeSD.org
