LifeScape Celebrates the Opening of its 5th Adult Residential Home in 5 Years!

Sioux Falls, SD – LifeScape held a ribbon cutting at their newest adult residential home in eastern Sioux Falls. The total investment into the latest duplex is more than $1.4 million, thanks to funds raised by the LifeScape Foundation and community partners. This marks the fifth adult residential duplex opened in the past five years, part of the non-profit’s strategic initiative, “We started this plan in 2020 with the groundbreaking of our first duplex, and now, five years later, it’s incredibly rewarding to see how our goal has been reached, empowering adults supported in our residential program to live their best live,” explains LifeScape CEO Steve Watkins.

A new duplex has opened every spring since the opening of Continuum Home in 2021, Linden Home in 2022, Magnolia Home in 2023, and Kennedy Home in 2024, the first to open outside of Sioux Falls city limits in Harrisburg. Each home has a single floor layout, eliminating mobility and safety challenges. The 5475 square foot design provides privacy and the sense of community for the eight residents, four on each side of the duplex. “We have made our vision of creating true homes for our residents by ensuring each has their own bedroom and bathroom, including one that is accessible on each side. Along with an accessible kitchen, shared living and dining areas, living room, tv room, laundry area, and a beautiful front porch and back patio,” explains Watkins.

“We continue to be able to bring these new homes to life thanks to our partnership with the South Dakota Department of Human Services and the South Dakota Housing Development Authority,” explains LifeScape Foundation President, Jessica Wells. “The partnership between South Dakota Housing and LifeScape has helped transform the lives of several vulnerable individuals by providing accessible housing. Over the last five years, it has enhanced the health and well-being of forty people with disabilities, offering a safe, stable environment that meets their complex needs. By fostering independence and dignity, this collaboration has greatly improved their quality of life, turning housing into a true home,” said Chas Olson, Executive Director of South Dakota Housing Development Authority.

Community partnerships are behind making this strategic initiative and future a reality, “We are beyond grateful to not only the South Dakota Housing Development Authority, but to Lloyd Companies, and Furniture Mart who have all tirelessly worked behind the scenes to support our mission,” says Wells, “Thanks to our donors and partnerships, not only have we been afforded the opportunity to build these new duplexes, we’ve also been able to purchase an existing home in western Sioux Falls,” continued Wells.
