LifeScape’s Go Baby Go chapter works to modify toy ride-on cars for children with mobility disabilities to give them a chance to play and socialize with their peers more easily. This chapter is part of the international Go Baby Go program that started at the University of Delaware.
Powered ride-on toys are a great way for toddlers and preschoolers to move, play, and socialize with their friends and families. Social movement is critical for independence, learning, and brain development.
The Go Baby Go LifeScape chapter aims to empower children across South Dakota and the surrounding region by enhancing their mobility and allowing them to enjoy childhood to the fullest. As children with delayed movement can’t use toy cars straight out of the box, we make thoughtful modifications. By using materials such as activation switches, kickboards, plastic pipes, fabric fasteners, and foam swim noodles, we adapt these cars to allow the child to drive and be positioned safely. This not only brings joy and fun to these children, but also presents opportunities for them to learn cause-and-effect principles and engage more effectively with their environment and peers. Families in the area with a child that could be a potential driver are encouraged to participate in our upcoming build day event. Ride-on cars provide children with disabilities a chance to have fun and just be kids!
Please complete an application to provide our team with additional information about your child. Our team will contact you to determine if we can build a car for your child based on the needs of your child and the resources we have.

Many children with delayed movement cannot use toy cars right out of the box. Modifications will be made to allow the child to drive and be positioned safely using the following materials:
Modifications provide the opportunity to learn cause-and-effect principles and how to engage in their environment and with peers.
$500 covers the cost of one car, plus modification supplies. We are accepting sponsorships so that as many children as possible may benefit. Please contact the LifeScape Foundation (giving@LifeScapeSD.org or call (605) 444-9800) to see how you can help sponsor a build.
At this time, we are not accepting donations of used ride-on toy cars.
Please email gobabygo@LifeScapeSD.org or call (605) 444-9700 if you or a group of individuals would like to volunteer for our next build day.
